Are Government Grants Available to Small Business Owners?

I just wonder, if government makes any money available as grants for small businesses...
I've started a two-men operation recently, in the field of business consulting, and badly need some funds to acquire office equipment and a car.

My local employment agency told me that fed. gov. approves grants to small business owners starting their first business. The problem is, this is my third business venture, and ai don't know if I qualify...
If I do, where do I apply?

Do You Know All Types of Grants?

Are you familiar with all available grant types? In case you're not, here they are, in no particular order of importance, or availability:

Personal Grants and Loans: Free money straight to your pocket. Limited accountability to the grant's administrator.
Education & Scholarships: Student loans, grants, education contracts, training fees.
Housing Grants: Rental assistance (downpayment, etc.), housing rehabilitation of rust-belt properties, real estate investments that benefit the community at large.
Minority Grants: Business (including small business), cultural & arts programs, non-profit care.
Grants for Women: Financial resources for starting a business, gender equity development programs, legal fees reimbursement in discrimination cases, child-care.

Are grants for you?

If somebody has asked you: "Are grants for you?" Whay would you say? Probably, a strong "Yes!"
But, do you really know enough about various grants, more and less targetted by the grantors, that promise heaps of money to those who qualify?
You see, although private and institutional benefactors promise very substantial funds to "a worthy cause", the devil is in the detail.

So, ask your self if and what for do you need grant money. What is your idea, purpose, aim, objective, etc. Are you seeking one of small business grants, or educational graants? Or, perhaps you belong to a minority, or you want to realize the gender equality, and are seeking grant for women...
The more precise your individual needs, the higher the likelihood of success.
