There are many reasons that people seek out educational grants. The primary one is to have financial assistance in obtaining a college degree. Many people assume that you automatically have to show financial hardship to be eligible for educational grants. For example, there is a shortage of nurses all around the world and the United States is no exception. There are many educational grants available specifically for students that wish to earn a nursing degree. The philosophy is that more students will seek out degrees in certain fields of study if they do not have to pay as much for the education. If the federal government is picking up the tuition, fees and books tabs it is more likely that more students will select these programs to earn a degree and thus pursue a career in the field once they receive the degree.

Traditionally, most people know that educational grants are also for students that can show financial hardships. These types of financial assistance help students from all socio-economic levels to earn their degrees when they might not have been able to attend college. Not only that, but it can help other students earn degrees without building a large amount of educational debt. The good news for everyone is regardless of the purpose of the funding, these types of grants do not have to be paid back to the government or the organization providing the money. This means that more and more people are able to attend college or conduct research than ever before. Paying for college is no longer just having student loans and credit card bills but being able to receive free funding from private and institutional benefactors.
