Free Grants Don't Mean Money Free Of Responsibility!

In case you've thought that free grants mean receiving money into your account, to be used for whatever purpose you see fit, think again!
Many grants recipients treats them as free money, as good as given and forgotten. Not so. Reading the fine print of your grant application, and later, a grant approval letter, would alert to many requirements imposed by the grantor, on the successful grant applicant.

You'll have to fulfill each of those requirements, otherwise your grant money will be recalled. As you're dealing with the federal or state government bureaucratic system, you chance of escaping the consequences are minimal. That's why it pays to keep exact records of how the grant funds are disbursed, to the target objectives. Better still, employ a qualified accountant or a dedicated grant manager, who will oversee the whole process of utilizing grant's money.

There are exact requirements, like:
-periodic reports of where money are spent
-how the grant's target is being realized
-are there any delays and obstructions to the grant's objectives being met
-supporting documentation, showing how the expenses incurred

As you can see, not an easy task for an average entrepreneur, who is preoccupied with managing the business, and planning for its growth. But, if you accept "free money", you must do what the benefactor ask you to do, right to the letter.
